The land of a thousand hills,Rwanda hosted the 17 th Afca conference and exhibition, that was from 13th to 15th Feb 2019.
In the amazing convention center which is a real achtecturial piece is where the event took place.
Meeting many people from many diversities of the coffee world was quite awesome not to mention the amazing women in coffee .I hope the women’s breakfast meeting was amazing because for some reason I missed it !
A beehive of activity took place at the booths and many coffee conversations happened at the conference rooms which I also missed (if I continue like this I might miss heaven too !!)-Was quite engaged though…
The event also hosted the African barista championships where South Africa took the win With our young Kenyan pilot taking the second spot.
Speaking of Rwanda, my first sight of Rwanda,Kigali in particular ,reminded me of Mesopotamia (mind you I have never been to Mesopotamia in person but through the good news book they gave us while I was about class three or so ,the picture of Mesopotamia is still vivid in my mind!). The town center is contrastingly modern though.
In Rwanda ,they drive on the right. One wonders if that is the reason why there is no traffic over there (at least I did not endure a single episode of traffic there.) I also noticed they do not have so many roundabouts so that could be a reason for the little or no traffic over there. I kept on asking people if it was that they have no cars or what ! how come the roads were flowing?! when I say flowing I mean real flowing. I remember taking a boda boda ride and for the first time I felt like I was in a presidential motorcade…I love speed when it is safe…
In essence their traffic system is something Nairobi can borrow a leaf from.
In short Kigali is like a breath of fresh air!
I managed to get some photos of the cupping sessions ,Awic breakfast(stolen) and videos of the amazing Rwandese dancers.Enjoy!!
